threaten the city; they are the unbreakable shield that protects it, and the
light that guides its way. Its members embody the indomitable spirit of hope
and justice, and they swear a sacred oath to bring light to the darkness and
hope to the hopeless. They stand as a beacon of light against the Blight and
the Beasts. They are the Altheria's first line of defense. And they will
hold that line, no matter the cost.

The Vanguard was founded in the early days of Altheria by Knights and
soldiers from Galrathia and Essedris who chose to look past old divisions
and rivalries and put their training to use serving their new home. These
early Knights combined the techniques traditionally taught by different
nations. As a result, the Vanguard transformed Knighthood from what was once
a mark of wealth or political favor into a mark of honor, strength, and
duty. As long as a glimmer of hope still burns, a Vanguard fights with every
ounce of their being.

Vanguard training combines serious martial prowess in heavy armor, shields,
and heavy weapons with the ability to channel inner Radiance to perform
minor miracles that staunch their wounds and shield their allies from harm.
