You lived in the borderlands between the holdings of the New Kingdoms that
collectively controlled much of the continent of Aelus. Being far from the
cities and seats of power of these places, you likely had limited concern
for and awareness of the politics of whomever happened to be laying claim
over your community and its land at any given time.
War was a common aspect of life for your community, with nations constantly
squabbling over borders, trading rights, and religious matters. Communities
on the margins like yours may have changed owners multiple times, leaving
you and your community torn between different far away places and lacking
any particular attachment to any of them.
Your culture cared most about putting in a good days' work with your hands
and keeping out of other peoples' business. Pastoral festivals were common
in times of plenty, as a way to bring the community together and ensure your
own mouths were fed before some faraway nation came to claim their tribute.
